PLC enters Crestron-land with latest Epson upgrades.
During the end-of-year holidays in late 2022, Vision One Technologies undertook an advanced upgrade of the science centre at PLC. The project focused on enhancing classroom technology with Epson’s interactive laser projection systems and modernising control equipment to align with the school’s evolving technological needs. Despite the challenges posed by the unique classroom setup, Vision One successfully delivered a solution that combined functionality with aesthetic appeal.
- Upgrade existing projection systems to advanced Epson interactive laser projectors.
- Implement a ceiling-mounted solution to address installation challenges and aesthetic concerns.
- Transition from legacy Extron control systems to Crestron’s state-of-the-art control solutions.
- Integrate Crestron’s XiO Cloud platform for streamlined management of AV and third-party devices.

Advanced projection and control systems enhance PLC’s science centre functionality.
With challenging classrooms and limited fixing opportunities across the board, Vision One suggested a strategic ceiling-mounted solution in order to maintain the school’s preference for laser, ultra short throw projection. While not the traditional means for installation, to circumvent the challenges presented by the exposed window paneling above each whiteboard, we balanced Epson’s state-of-the-art keystone correction technology with acute installation choices to deliver an outcome that was both cosmetically-sound and functional.
In 9x classrooms, we decommissioned NEC short throw projectors and replaced them with new Epson EB-1480Fi 5,000 ANSI Lumens Finger-Touch Interactive Laser Projectors. With its WUXGA resolution and laser display technology, the EB-1480Fi has been designed to be easy to use, enriching collaborative and agile working environments. Given the unique installation conditions, 7x units were installed via Ultralift compact ceiling brackets while 2x units were installed via 1.2m Ultralift Ceiling Posts. All cabling was rerouted while legacy VGA adapters were upgraded to full HD, HDMI technology.

Seamless upgrade integrates interactive projectors and modern Crestron control solutions.
As part of the school’s upcoming transition to Crestron control, we replaced all legacy Extron control equipment with Crestron TSW-770 Touch Screen Wall Mounted Presentation Controllers, RMC4 Room Controllers and 5-Port PoE Switches. The Crestron® RMC4 provides a secure, high‑performance, cost-effective control processor and interface for controlling and monitoring for a single display device, a small AV system, lighting and shading, climate control, security, energy management, and many other specialized applications.
PLC also subscribed to Crestron’s industry-standard XiO Cloud platform; a directive that will be maintained throughout all future deployments. Crestron’s XiO Cloud service provides a platform for users to manage both Crestron and third-party devices at scale, significantly reducing the time and effort needed to deploy and configure devices from a single location.
- Enhanced Projection Quality: The Epson EB-1480Fi projectors provided high brightness and interactive capabilities, improving the clarity and engagement of classroom presentations.
- Optimised Installation: The strategic ceiling-mounted installation overcame spatial challenges and maintained the aesthetic integrity of the Science Centre.
- Modernised Control Systems: Replacing legacy Extron equipment with Crestron TSW-770 Touch Screen Controllers and RMC4 Room Controllers streamlined AV management and improved operational efficiency.
- Efficient Device Management: The adoption of Crestron XiO Cloud enabled centralised control and management of AV and other connected devices, reducing deployment time and simplifying configuration.
The upgrade of PLC’s science centre with Epson interactive projectors and Crestron control systems marks a significant enhancement in the school’s technological capabilities. Vision One’s innovative solutions not only addressed the installation challenges but also provided PLC with cutting-edge tools for an enriched educational environment, ensuring the school remains at the forefront of modern education technology.
