At Lalor Secondary College, a newly commissioned building from the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) was set to become a central hub for student activities. However, it lacked the critical audio-visual infrastructure necessary to bring the space to life.
As long-term collaborators with the school, Vision One was tasked with designing and implementing a solution tailored to the unique needs of the multipurpose hall.
Here’s a closer look at how we turned this vision into reality.
Project Overview
The multipurpose hall at Lalor Secondary College is expansive, measuring 38 meters in width and 42.5 meters in length. Given the size of the space, the school identified two main requirements: a large display solution and a powerful audio system to ensure clear visibility and audibility from any point in the hall.
To address the brief, we recommended the following three solutions:
- 5m x 3m LED Wall, 2.6PP
- 16,000 ANSI Lumens Projector
- 20,000 ANSI Lumens Projector
After careful consideration, the school opted for the budget-conscious yet high-performance option of a 16,000 ANSI lumens projector.
This choice would ensure bright, clear images on a large scale without breaking the bank.
The Visual Solution
Epson EB-PU2216B 16000lm WUXGA Large Venue 3LCD Laser Projector
The core of the visual setup is the Epson EB-PU2216B projector, known for its exceptional brightness and clarity. With 16,000 ANSI lumens and WUXGA resolution (1920 x 1200 pixels), this projector delivers stunning visuals even in well-lit environments. Its laser-based light source offers up to 20,000 hours of maintenance-free operation, making it a reliable long-term investment.
ELPLU03S Short Throw Lens and Ultralift 3m Ceiling Post
To achieve the desired projection size of approximately 6 meters in width and 3.8 meters in height from a 3-meter throw distance, we paired the projector with the ELPLU03S short throw lens. This combination ensures a large, sharp image even in the relatively confined projection distance. The projector was mounted using an Ultralift 3m ceiling post and secured with a Spider Vault Jumbo Cage for maximum safety and stability.
The Audio Solution
Audac KYRA24/B Designer Column Speakers and BASO15 Subwoofers
To match the high-quality visuals, we installed a comprehensive audio system featuring Audac’s KYRA24/B designer column speakers and BASO15 subwoofers. The KYRA24/B speakers are known for their sleek design and powerful sound output, making them perfect for large venues. Paired with the BASO15 subwoofers, which deliver deep, rich bass, this setup ensures clear and immersive audio throughout the hall.
Audac PRE116 Preamplifier and Power Amplifiers
The audio system is driven by the Audac PRE116 6-channel stereo preamplifier, which includes integrated Bluetooth for versatile connectivity options. Powering the speakers are the Audac SMQ350 4-channel and SMA750 2-channel power amplifiers, providing ample power and clarity for any audio source.
Integration and Control
Sennheiser Wireless Microphone System
For presentations and events, we installed a Sennheiser wireless microphone system, including two EW 100 G4-835 vocal handheld microphone kits and a dual bay charging kit. This system offers reliable, high-quality audio transmission, ensuring speakers can be heard clearly from anywhere in the hall.
JED T460 Wall Controller
To simplify operation, we integrated a JED T460 wall controller, allowing easy control of the entire AV system with just a few buttons. This user-friendly interface ensures that staff and students can effortlessly manage the AV setup for various events.
Installation Challenges and Solutions
The elevated flooring, while functional and cosmetically-sound, could not support the multi-ton weight load of specialised heavy lifting equipment. To address this, we coordinated for 24 sheets of 12mm plywood for structural support and a combination of a 19ft scissor lift and two 9.2m man lifts for installation and cabling access.
